Voice recognition is a bit iffy. The photos that accompany some of the exercises are sometimes also too small and/or unclear to be unambiguous.
Chinese music download blog. It's easy, for example, to identify a boy as a girl or vice versa (although in 2017, one can never be sure). All in all, the course material is good, but very expensive and there's no option to buy outright that will grant you all of the features. Rosetta Stone are regarded as the gold standard of language self-study, and they're leaning a bit too heavily on that these days.
Duolingo and Memrise are a couple of very worthy alternatives. I think this is a really good program if you already know some of the language. I started with Memrise first (for free) and learned quite a bit. Now, when I use Rosetta Stone some of the words already make sense so I know what to do. I do have one issue with this program, I don't think it's worth the cost.
Even though I purchased it at a pretty high discount I still think I paid too much for it. Now, if I had bought the books and everything then I could justify the price, but all I have is access to this program online. Plus, I only have access for two years. Please don't get me wrong, I like this program, it's really enjoyable and you pick things up pretty quickly, I'm just bitching about the cost. $300-$400 (reg price) for two yrs is a lot of cash, thankfully they charge you in installments so you're not hit with the full amount in one shot. If you're ok with the $$ then definitely get this program, you'll be speaking a new language in no time.
If not, then try another app like Babble or Memrise, they're way cheaper. I haven't tried Babble but Memrise is pretty fun and you can even use some of it for free.
I hope this helps you to decide where to start. Have fun learning a new language regardless of what app you choose!!
