OK, i expect to pick up a LOT of flak for this, BUT i will freely admit that i prefer the TEC to the other races (I rarely play as Vasaari and i have never even finished a game as Advent) I favour the TEC because i like the look and feel of their ships, i think their capital ships are the best and i really love the strong economy you can build up quite easily (especially with the Trade Facilities on the Argonev, 6.5 credits per second each, great!), the strong economy and the reduce ship build time reseach allows you to rapidly and cheaply replace losses, and the ships themselves are great. Also.there is just something.satisfying.about winning games as TEC. As if you'd saved the human race from annihilation. BUT, what race is your favourite, and most importantly, WHY??? This should probably go in the general forum, since it's more of a personal opinion thread than a strategy one, but I'll bite nonetheless.
My favourite is Advent. I've played all of the races and won games against hard/unfair AI with each (I've only just started playing multiplayer so I'll leave that out), and have come to the conclusion that Advent are my favourites. They are so mainly because of the capital ships.
With TEC and Vasari you have a set of about 3 cap ships that get used 99% of the time with only brief mentions for the other ones (the Sova Carrier is the prominent example here) whereas with Advent you can conceivably, and probably will, use every cap ship as part of your strategy. Each ship has at least one skill that helps out your fleet in a major way (be it shield regen, energy cooldown, detonate antimatter or the vengeance/animosity combo (not to mention how useful reverie is at stopping the Marza from killing everyone)). Add on to that the frankly massive number of strike craft available (Anima Tempest ), the guardians and the illuminators, as well as the enhanced culture and you have yourself a practically immortal fighting force that can even weather the storm that is missile barrage.
Hell, I even like the Love Cannon (TM) since it's pretty damn useful for giving you the culture bonus even on assault. So yeah, I like Advent. Early game, Vasari are kings. Late game, Advent are kings.
TEC comes in somewhere in the middle with its cheap spammable hordes of units, and the mighty Marza. Allure of the Unity is an awesome late game tech for a big empire, but the problem is that Advent has very little reason to build more than 3 civic labs, so usually it comes out very late in the game. I personally don't think resource focus is worthwhile (if you have allure of the unity and culture, it sometimes is worthwhile, but we're talking VERY VERY late game here).
Induced Reverence is basically a way to double up on Allure of the Unity. Good to put it on a planet with lots of resource rocks. In multiplayer, I almost constantly see only Varsari, followed by a few TEC players. Well for what ive done. Is i play advent and made their awesoem defense into an offence.
I love how the cap bonuses from research (all wep upgrades) make everything like 15% more owerful each lv. Never lost a game as advent against hard ai and lower. This is for normal SoaSE i am just starting to use entrenchment and i am getting my ass kicked a little bit due to no moeny. But i am still figuring out a profiting way to do it = me = you as my general = some one as my commander = my slaves from ur army/planets = you as my b. helping me kill the other guy so i can kill u with ur own army that became my slave PM me with a comeback ^^^^^^^^^^^^. I think it's great that Sins manages to have 3 unique races that are rather well balanced.
So far there are things I like about all of them. I don't play MP, just against the AI and I haven't had the game for too long.
Still, I tend to cycle through the different races on each playthrough. With the TEC it's great getting to the point where you can pump out units at a great pace due to a strong economy and fast build times. I find it easiest to put together balanced/coordinated fleets with them. The starbase is extremely useful with its strong trade-port and fast-factory.
The cap ships are really hit and miss, with the Mazra and Kol being great, but the others a bit on the 'meh' side. The robotics cruisers are one of my favorite units, except when the hostile fleet has 'em. I like the Advent because of the cap-ships and the culture war aspect. The cap-ships are a lot of fun to play with because of their coordinated abilities in addition to some decent stand-alone special weapons. The defenses are another favorite aspect as I can set up a planet to fend off most any attack.
Even an asteroid can be surrounded by enough hangars/repair bays/beam turrets to withstand late-game pirate attacks with little or no attention. Plus, locking down planets with culture is both an offensive and defensive treat! I have probably played the Vasari the least, but I do like a good offensive powerhouse! The cap ships are my favorite in the game, easily.
While I like the Advent caps for their combo attacks, the Vasari abilities are just useful across the board (for the most part). The phase gates make for some great additional strategy and I like how powerful you can make phase-missile attacks. It might be strange that I find its starbase my least favorite. Yea, it cam move and it's wicked powerful once upgraded, but I don't like in it's role as an offensive weapon. From all factions I like the TEC the least. In all strategy games I've always favoured military or research factions over economical ones. Some people like the idea of outproducing the enemy, of swarming and living with higher level of fragility.
I don't I like playing Vasari, their sturdy ships with raw firepower, mobility and powerful crippling abilities or Advent with their very good capitals and fleet support, cultural warfare and ability to build up strong defenses even on small systems. But nevertheless when I play with random faction I am willing to play a good game as TEC as well and maximizing their efficiency. It's also good for learning to know your enemy. Early game, Vasari are kings. Late game, Advent are kings. TEC comes in somewhere in the middle with its cheap spammable hordes of units, and the mighty Marza.

Ppl over use movable SB for offence otherwise no one would play vars. Despite the advent strike craft and ability to capture enemy ships, i still prefer TEC and Vasari simply because you can build more ships.
Drone Anima cost 21 fleet space and having a bunch of them drags your fleet down. TEC has the Novalith which is amazing when used properly and Vasari will always win head to head with a fully upgraded fleet (late game). Howver, all 3 are still very well balanced and I've learned the best tactics and strategies with all 3 so who I play as or against doesn't matter to me. I like the TEC and Vasari but Advent suck plus thier ships look weird. My favorite though would have to be the Vasari because if you build research stations early on and dont buy many ships than you can research returning armada, put phase stabilizers on all your planets and boom, unstoppable fleet for free! Then when you lose some ships more come and if your short on money you can scuttle them and they will be replaced. Plus all the phase stabilizers make it possible to travel between all your planets in the event of an attack so you dont have to leave a defence force at each planet.
Also they have the best cap ship in the game, the Jarrisul Evacuator also known as The Egg. This is for normal sins not Entrenchment PS: NEVER PLAY AS ADVENT!
